Gannon`s Revenge

fanfic`er: nicholas LS whelan

The file I pulled this from tells me it was created on December 19th 2001, and last modified on February 22, 2002. I would have been 14 years old at the time.

I recall that as I was writing my first draft I carried it around in a brown UPS-branded 3-ring binder. I recall also that I did not know how to type at the time. When I typed it up, I made sure to return my fingers to the home row after entering each letter, and that by the end I was a fairly competent touch typist.

I wrote this in the hopes that it would be published on the fan fiction section of the nintendoland.com website. I don't believe it ever was. The entire document was originally centered, which is the only aspect of formatting intentionally altered here.

Gannon’s Revenge

Okay this is my first fanfic so I hope it makes sense. I am not a very good writer But I have tried to make this as readable as possible. I hope you enjoy my story (This story takes place one year after "The Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past") (The best game in the history of Hyrule)

A CALLING

"Link"…He was hearing it again…"Link help me" The voice that had called him a year ago was calling him once more. Then with a start he awoke from his dream, the last whispers of the voice drifting away. It had been Zeldas voice, but had it been a true message or just a memory awakened by his want for adventure. Then he heard it again "Link" he was sure he heard it this time "Li-"…That could not be good if the message had been cut off that meant one of two things had happened, either the princess had been killed or someone was somehow blocking the transmission, Link heartily hoped for the latter. In any event it was obviously his duty to find out which and either stop this …what-ever-it-was, from harming Zelda or at least stop it from committing it's heinous crime elsewhere.

Capture!

Link hed been very careful to keep most of the useful items from his previous adventure in a safe place so in case of an emergency he would not be unprepared. He took the family sword from its place on the shelf in the home he shared with his uncle, he would retrieve the master sword later but lost woods was quite a way from here and he had given the ocarina back to the flute player in Kokiri village. Link left a note for his uncle, who had been getting very weak in the past months, opened the door, and saw the soldiers waiting for him outside his home, but not in the traditional gold of the palace guard but in green armor. Link jumped back into his house and slammed the door just as three arrows impacted with it. Link faintly heard his uncle awake with a start but did not have time to reassure the older man, as the soldiers were breaking through the door with their swords.

In no time they would break through. Then with a loud foop! The door collapsed. Link pulled his sword and cut down one, two, three of the enemy soldiers but for every one that fell, two more jumped through the door to take his place and in time they had overrun Link and his uncle, bound them, and carried them off to an unknown destination.

The Hidden Fortress

Link awoke. For a moment pain was all he knew, then it tapered off to simply the dominating feeling. He sat up slowly, eager to assess his surroundings, but not wanting to overdo it, but as soon as he began to pull himself up he wished he hadn't. The pain in his head was strong enough to send him sprawling back onto his cot. Just then the guard came in. "Lord Gannon wants to see you!" the soldier said.

"Gannon!" Link thought, "he's dead!" But Link had seen too many strange things not to believe the guard and knew that to face Gannon under these circumstances would almost certainly be fatal. Outside Link's cell seven more guards waited to escort him to Gannon. Obviously Gannon had learned from previous experience. As the guards led Link from the cell his mind began racing to escape. He would have to kill eight guards, go back for his uncle, and escape from this dank lair of his old rival. Link decided that the lesser risk was trying to escape, and as they rounded a corner he saw his chance.

Link dove to the left ramming one guard into the wall taking him out of the fight then he reached out with his bound hands and caught the man's sword, lopped off the head of the guard to his right, and ran the man to his left clean through. Link looked up only to see the guard across the hall from him bringing a bow to bear and without thinking Link hurled his sword at the man. The sword caught the man full in the chest. The soldiers were fully alert now and all had their swords drawn. As one of the guards brought his sword down in a vertical slash Link raised his arms and let the sword cut through right through the ropes.

With both his hands now free Link tucked'n rolled coming up with one of the dead guard's weapons, a pitchfork, "dang!" Link thought, he had never mastered that weapon. Nonetheless he swept forward, and jabbed! The guard blocked Link's attack with his sword and the two others rushed in. Link twisted and pulled, flinging the guard's sword into the air. Link jumped and caught it, landed, did a spin attack, and it was all over.

The Master Sword

Link reached down to pick up one of the dead guard's shields and then began racing back the way they had come. Without any more difficulty than that posed by one guard on his way to mess, Link made it back to his cell. Link hefted his sick uncle onto his shoulders and ran out of his cell. After a minute or so Link heard the alarm sounding throughout the dungeon. The bodies had been discovered! He started running faster. Soon Link came to a door, opened it and jumped through. He thought fast. If Gannon was really alive it would be no easy task escaping from his fortress, unless Gannon wanted him to escape. Now that he thought about it Gannon probably didn’t want to murder Link.

Gannon wanted to defeat Link, and prove himself to be the better warrior of the two. And eight guards was quite an undercut to Link's abilities. Link continued his flight from the guards and soon came to a flight of stairs leading upward; he began to run up them and in 15 minutes found himself at the top of the stairs with a trap door right above him. Link opened the door and found himself in lost woods. He was sure Gannon had meant for him to escape now, because he was right in front of the pedestal of the master sword, and it was gone!

A Battle Foretold

Link ran. He ran to the sage to drop off his uncle, then to Salseharas retreat in the Far East. Sure enough Salsehara was there, just as he always was during a time of crises "I have been waiting for you, Link" he said. "I knew you would be" Link replied. Then he filled Salsehara in on what had happened. When he had finished he just stood there for a long moment, then he straightened and said, "My wife found this note, delivered by arrow, attached to the front door ". He handed Link a small piece of paper, it read "Hero of knight's blood, the three pennants I took from you were just as effective for me as they were for you. I now await you atop Death Mountain. If you wish to see your princess again you will face me there".

Preparation

Salsehara could offer no more help, so Link went to the fairy in the middle of Lake Hylia. As soon as he came close to the pool the fairy appeared and said, "Ah, my friend. It is a long time since I saw you. What is it I can do for you ". Link explained the situation and asked her if she could do anything for the battered old sword that had once belonged to the prison guard. Without a word the fairy raised her arms and his sword began to glow, brighter and brighter until he had to avert his eyes. After a minute he looked back, only to see a different sword, longer, polished glittering with power. "This is as much as I can do for you, I only hope it is enough. Now, go my friend and waste no time, Gannon's evil must be stopped". Then her image faded, and Link set off for Death Mountain. Link knew that without the power gloves he could not lift the boulder blocking the entrance to Death Mountain so he decided to try to whistle for his old duck. He put his fingers in his mouth and blew. Within minutes Link and the duck were soaring toward Death Mountain. As soon as he landed Link began running to the old man's home. As soon as he was in the door the old man said,

"He is on top of spectacle rock, Link. Don't worry about getting up there, I installed some stairs a month or so back. The view up there is great!" " Thank you my friend," said Link. Link left the old man's home through the tunnels and soon came to the stairs leading up to spectacle rock. Link slowly walked up the stairs and onto the arena that Gannon had chosen, but Gannon was not there. Then the ground began to rumble.

The Final Battle

The ground churned and long vines began to grow around the perimeter of spectacle rock, soon the vines began to spout thorns that grew to about two and a half feet long and looked sharp enough to impale a helmasaur. Clearly Gannon did not want this battle to end with one of them escaping. Then in a burst of flame Gannon appeared wielding the master sword "Die Hero!" Gannon howled and lunged at Link. Link raised his sword to deflect the lunge, fully expecting his weapon to shatter at the power of the master sword. The blades clashed, and his blade held! Gannon and Link stood atop Death Mountain in gridlock neither one willing to budge, but suddenly Link's sword began to bend, it squeaked and cracked until it finally disintegrated. Gannon, laughing, swung his sword at Link's head. The blade that had saved him so many times was about to kill him.

The sword came to within an inch of Link's head, and then stopped. Link looked up to see Gannon's confused face, and his arms straightening to finish the blow It suddenly dawned on Link, and in one fluid motion he had snatched the master sword from Gannon's hand's. Gannon jumped back, bringing his pitchfork to bear while screaming a colorful array of curses. In response Link recited something Salsehara once said, "The master sword was forged as evils bane!" In fury Gannon swiped at Link who tucked'n rolled coming up behind Gannon slashing. He hit his mark, and Gannon froze as he always did when touched by the blade of the master sword. It was then that Link realized that he had no silver arrows, which were the only weapon that could kill the lord of evil. What could he do? Gannon would not stay frozen for long.

Just then the fat fairy appeared to him, "Hero, I have only one arrow of silver to give. May your aim be true", she said and disappeared. Then there in Link's hands was a bow and one silver arrow. Link put the arrow to the string, pulled far, took careful aim, and…Gannon unfroze and jumped out of the way just as Link fired so that the arrow hit the wall of vines. In frustration Link shouldered the bow and charged at his adversary. Gannon jumped over the charging Link, landed behind him and jabbed with his pitchfork. Link barely got out of the way by falling to the left, Gannon, laughing, brought the pitchfork over Link's head for a downward strike that would surely kill him. Link saw an opening and struck, hitting Gannon square in the chest freezing him again. Seeing his chance Link jumped up, and ran over to the silver arrow, pulled it out of the vines, put it to the bow and fired!

A Hero Re-proven

Link's aim was true, flying into the small of Gannon's back, severing his spine. Gannon began to writhe then without warning he exploded into a huge fireball that burned down all the vines. Then, with a blinding light that forced Link to avert his eyes for a moment, a large crystal appeared and began to float down towards the ground. As soon as the tip of the crystal touched the ground, it disintegrated revealing Zelda. "Oh Link!" she exclaimed "You have saved me from Gannon's evil prison." She gracefully walked over and kissed Link's cheek. "Once again you have proven to be the greatest hero hyrule has ever known. " Link simply smiled and whistled for his duck.

The End
